Yesterday, with the help of our good friends Yahn, Jay, and Rita, we loaded up an old International Harvester Square-Baler and a Ford Hay-Rake onto our two trailers and brought them to their new home.

Though both machines have plenty of years behind them, we’re hopeful that we’ll soon have them up and running again. 

There are no computers, sensors, or complicated electronics to worry about—just old, reliable technology built in a different era.

And, of course, plenty of “Zerk” grease fittings!

What parts we can’t find on eBay or Marketplace, we can likely fabricate ourselves. 

That’s one of the blessings of older equipment—it was designed to be repaired rather than replaced.

Folks, this is another step toward becoming more self-sufficient. Before long, we won’t need to buy hay anymore. In fact, our hope is to produce enough that we’ll have some to share with others.

As I looked at that old equipment sitting on the trailers yesterday, I couldn’t help but think about how many old things are tucked away in barns, fields, and forgotten places—waiting for a second chance at usefulness.

There is a lesson there.

Sometimes people feel much the same way. Worn out. Set aside. Forgotten.

Yet our Lord has a wonderful way of restoring old things and giving them new life, new purpose, and new value. What others may see as worn out, He often sees as ready to be rebuilt.

Yes, there are good lessons to be found here.

Well, it’s time to start cleaning up this old equipment and see what it’ll take to put it back to work. In other words…

Let’s make hay while the sun shines!
