DON’T WAIT UNTIL THERE’S AN EMERGENCY TO GET PREPARED!
Cindy and I are hearing increasing reports and concerns about the possibility of a strategic disruption to the U.S. electrical grid.
We do not know how credible these reports are, and we are not claiming that a grid shutdown is imminent. However, one thing is certain: being prepared BEFORE an emergency is far better than scrambling AFTER one begins!
A major power disruption—even a temporary one—could affect communications, water systems, grocery stores, fuel supplies, banking, transportation, and access to essential medicines.
This is NOT a time to panic. It IS a time to take action.
HERE’S WHAT I AM ASKING YOU TO DO TODAY:
Please take an honest inventory of your household preparedness. Don’t assume you have what you need. Check it!
- WATER: Do you have enough safe drinking water for your family? Aim for at least one gallon per person per day for a minimum of three days, preferably two weeks if possible.
- FOOD: Do you have at least two weeks of food that does not depend on refrigeration or electricity?
- MEDICATIONS: Check prescription supplies, first-aid kits, and essential medical needs. Contact your pharmacist or healthcare provider about maintaining an appropriate reserve.
- LIGHTING & BATTERIES: Check flashlights, lanterns, radios, spare batteries, and backup charging devices.
- FUEL & TRANSPORTATION: Keep your vehicle fueled when practical. Check your generator, if you have one, and store fuel safely.
- COMMUNICATIONS: Have a battery-powered or hand-crank radio. Make sure your family knows how to communicate if cell service goes down.
- CASH & ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES: Keep some cash available, along with hygiene supplies, pet food, and other necessities.
DON’T TRY TO DO EVERYTHING AT ONCE. START TODAY.
Make a list of what you have, identify what is missing, and begin filling the gaps. Prioritize drinking water, essential medications, food, and reliable ways to receive emergency information.

If you already have these supplies, take time to check expiration dates, test equipment, and make sure everything is accessible.
As for Cindy and me, I am scheduled to fly to Boston early Saturday morning, where I am scheduled to speak at the Sunday morning service at The Mill Church in Millbury, Massachusetts. We will continue monitoring conditions and will adjust our travel plans if necessary.
HERE’S THE BOTTOM LINE:
We don’t know what tomorrow may bring. But we can make wise decisions today.
If nothing happens, wonderful! You will still have strengthened your household and gained peace of mind.
But if an emergency does occur, you will be thankful you took these steps BEFORE everyone else is trying to find water, food, batteries, and fuel.
PLEASE DON’T PUT THIS OFF. TAKE 30 MINUTES TODAY AND MAKE A PREPAREDNESS PLAN. THEN BEGIN PUTTING IT INTO ACTION.
I will share more information as it becomes available.
Stay alert. Stay calm. Stay prepared. And most importantly, keep looking up to Jesus!
